Playtime With Our Granddaughter

Aloha Everyone,

It’s been a little over 13 months since J.J. and I stayed with our son’s family. Our son jokingly but accurately stated that my main focus over this coming week is to spend as much time as possible with our granddaughter. She still has school but kept her weekend schedule open.

I regularly play video games including Clash of Clans and Boom Beach. My daily schedule includes spending about 30-40 minutes twice a day. My reason is playing video games that requires strategy, speed, as well as memory, helps my brain health.

However, playing Nintendo game with our granddaughter and daughter-in-law was not only fun and exciting, but at times stressful. There were definitely elements of competition as the three of us played against each other.

We then shifted to playing Pictionary, which was both creative, imaginative and often hilarious. With only a sheet of paper and a pen, our imagination ran wild.

Super Active Saturday

Aloha Everyone,

It is heartwarming to see that our son, daughter-in-law and granddaughter are all doing great, but they are extremely busy. This morning, our son and I went for a walk for 2.5 miles around the immediate neighborhood. Jeff, our younger son, joined us from Hawaii via phone so our stroll made it even more special.

Dropped off our granddaughter at her Tang Soo Do class held at Torrey Pines Beach. Then I accompanied our daughter-in-law to pick up takeout Chinese Dim Sum orders. The food was absolutely sumptuous.

Driving To La Jolla, CA

Aloha Everyone,

Our drive from Torrance to La Jolla took us 2 hours. The last time we drove this route was 4 months ago just before we left on our cruises. Main difference in today’s driving is that there are less cars on the freeway. There were more construction and road work. Perhaps that maybe resulting from additional revenue the state government is receiving from the higher prices of gasoline.

Lunch Invitation from My Sister

Aloha Everyone,

My sister invited us for lunch at a Japanese Restaurant located in Miyako Hybrid Hotel.

The restaurant is set up to accommodate large group of diners with indoor, outdoor settings. There is also a sushi station.

While the food selections we made were not really impressive, desserts of Green Tea Cheesecake and Green Tea Ice Cream were delicious.

Mulch For Soil Health

Aloha Everyone,

This morning on my walk I saw several trucks in our Extended Stay America (ESA) with workers busy unloading and spreading mulch to the surface of soil.

Mulch they were using were a combination of wood and bark chips with some sort of soil compose. Its purpose is to improve fertility and the health of the soil. Aroma emanating from these piles was sweet and spicy. Darker colors spread over the plants definitely enhances the visual appearance.
