Day 2 in Helena - Looking for Local Restaurants

Aloha Everyone,

J.J. had some ideas as to what type of food he would like to have. We made a quick list including Gyros (we saw a small take-out place), Mexican food and local family place.

Perhaps these small farming communities eat early. By the time we arrived after 4:30 pm, both Gyros and Mexican were closed.

I was okay with DQ or Wendy’s, but J.J. was looking for something more special. At the end, we purchased fried chicken from Safeway supermarket.

Bozeman, Montana

Aloha Everyone,

Our original plan was possibly to go to Yellowstone National Park. J.J. and I had to forgo our plan of going because it would take nearly two hours to get to the entrance.

After making our own breakfast, the two of us went to explore Bozeman and search for suitable places for lunch.

Audrey’s Pizza Oven serves handcrafted pizza. J.J. asked for soup and salad with pizza but the waiter said only pizzas are available today. We ordered a smaller vegetarian.

Stopped by at Whole Foods to purchase soups for tonight and croissants for morning. Did our laundry and took a nice shower in our walk-in shower.

This room is upgraded and everything is new. One challenge for me is that our extra huge bed is at least 3 feet high. It’s an effort to climb.

From Glendive to Boseman, Montana

Aloha Everyone,

A full breakfast was served at La Quinta. Several families were staying, and they were able to enjoy making their own pancakes to a wide array of breakfast options. I kept mine simple with Green Tea and Cheerios.

Stopped at Walmart in Miles City. Montana highways are not as well maintained but their Rest Stops are clean. These stops also give interesting information about surrounding areas.

Applebee's for lunch. We had soup and salad but didn’t linger.

Our dinner at an authentic Mexican restaurant. It wasn’t healthy as I ate refried beans and rice with fish tacos. We are staying two nights at Everhome Suites. This place is like ESA in California. They’ve been open for only 2 weeks. They serve no coffee nor breakfast.

Arrived in Glendive, Montana - Back in Mountain Time

Aloha Everyone,

If the two of us had chosen a direct route, from Minot to Glendive it would’ve taken us only 3.5 hours. Instead, today’s trip was closer to 5.

The day was windy, crisp and beautiful with the sun shining on beautiful farmland and National grass lands. J.J. and I agree that part of the fun of traveling is exploring and meandering back country roads.

Our first stop was Walmart to purchase supplies. I was happy to get a chance to do my walking for about 40 minutes before lunch.

An unusual looking family restaurant caught our eyes. Its parking lot was surrounded with huge metal sculptures of Bisons, cowboys and Indians. Doc Holiday and OK Corral placards were posted outdoors but once we went inside, the interior decor was even more impressive. J.J. enjoyed a French dip sandwich and I nibbled on a large Reuben sandwich also served with fries.

Just looking at my plate I felt full. Tonight, I had a banana, one gluten free bar and drinking lots of ice water. J.J. made his meal with our leftovers.
