Aloha Everyone,
We are busy packing. After the 7 days of the first cruise which takes us to Ensenada, Mexico, San Francisco, Santa Barbara and back to San Pedro, our second cruise of 12 days will take us to Alaska.
The attached map gives our route. Our return date is on Tuesday May 30th from Vancouver, BC. To make sure we will not have delays with getting to the airport, J.J. already purchased pier to airport transportation as well as our flight on Air Canada which departs at 3:00 pm, arrives at LAX at 6:00 pm.
Overnight stay at La Quinta Inn then Lyft to pick up Honu on Wednesday morning and back at Extended Stay America on Wednesday May 31st.

Aloha Everyone,
We love what Krystel does with our hair. J.J. and I had our hair cut only 6 weeks ago just prior to leaving Manila. Krystel confirmed that my hair is growing about 1 inch per month. That is good news, but since we cannot see her once a month for maintenance, that creates its own issues.
Krystel listened to our wishes and concerns since our hair styles must be easy to maintain and hopefully would keep for more than a couple of weeks without getting out of control.
Krystel also gifted me with a small travel size sample of shampoo and conditioner to try.
One of the enjoyable aspects of going to a hair salon is to have my hair professionally shampooed. After Krystel blow dried my shorter than normal locks with short bangs, she told me it is her Mother’s Day gift to me. I promised at least for the afternoon, I will enjoy my new haircut and won’t cover it up with my usual baseball cap :-)

Aloha Everyone,
They are noisy and they blow so many particles in the air. They seem to have no regulations regarding how early they may begin their use. Usually, in the residential neighborhood located adjacent to Extended Stay America (ESA) in Torrance, Saturday is when gardeners have weekly lawn job. J.J. and I have been awakened from our slumber when, power lawn mowers and leaf blowers interrupt the silence.
Regulators and clean-air advocates are monitoring the pollution caused by these familiar machines which seemed not only are being used by professionals but by homeowners.
The Noise Pollution and Abatement Act of 1970 was established within the EPA. This act is authorized to conduct a full and complete investigation of noise and its effect on public health and welfare.
According to environmentalists quoted in a Denver newspaper, using a commercial gas leaf blower for an hour produces emissions equal to driving from Denver to Los Angeles.
Not all is in vain. There are cities and states with phase in prohibition of banning sale of small gas engines. However, with exceptions and loopholes, this regulation will not be effective unless individuals take responsibility.
My post cataract operation eyes are sensitive to dusts and my acute sense of hearing are honestly a small price to pay for being able to get my daily walks.

Aloha Everyone,
Jeff is adventurous when it comes to international cuisine. He recently met with friends at an authentic Cantonese Dim Sun restaurant in Chinatown, Honolulu.
One does not go for ambiance or elegant dining, but simply for fabulous food. Jeff mentioned to show how close to real Cantonese dishes they serve, conversations were in Cantonese and some of dishes prepared weren’t even on the menu.
We in return shared J.J.’s Japanese sushi bento boxes. My breakfast and lunch plates include chickpeas, omelets with veggies, natto (fermented beans) with veggies and omelets plus dried seaweeds.
Aloha Everyone,
There are a number of American celebrations in the month of May starting with May Day, Lei Day, Mother’s Day, Memorial Day and ethnic celebrations of Japan’s Boys Day plus Cinco de Mayo. Lesser known is that May 1 is National Walking Month Day for 2023. The latter is significant, and I try to greet fellow morning walkers with cheery “Happy National Walking Month!”
I also have 12 family members and friends who are celebrating their special occasions. So, via initials, 6th K&J, 14th DK, 17th J&J, 19th KH, 20th AY, 21st KF, 25th D&S, 26th JCUR, 26th JB, 27th LB, 28th CH, 30th SH.
Have a great one and may you stay healthy, safe and continue to enjoy your life to the fullest!
