Clinica Pasteur in Quito Ecuador

Aloha Everyone,

The Clinica Pasteur is a private hospital is owned by a religious order and quite a few nuns work here full time. The day starts at 5:30 am when they wake J.J. up to ask if he had a good sleep. By 6:00 am they have morning prayers through the public address system. A priest comes during the day, but he speaks only Spanish so conversation is limited to greetings.

J.J. feels bad for a nun who must be more than 85 years and smaller than me. She helped pull his gurney for the CT scan. J.J. says that he felt like getting off to help. The rest of the nursing staff are mostly short, stocky and strong. According to J.J., the nurses can be bossy. Their Spanish is also difficult to follow and try to understand.  He suspects lots of local Indian dialect is mixed.

It is better with the doctors. So long as they speak slowly we can more or less comprehend. I am learning a lot of Spanish medical terminology.

Aloha -- Cathi
