Useful Gardening Ideas

Aloha Everyone,

We have been experiencing a heat wave in Southern California for the past couple of days. 94 degrees in November is unusual especially when some trees are wearing autumn colors and the fall football season has commenced.

My Mother waters after sunset. Less loss from evaporation and the water is absorbed by soil closer to the roots.

Waterrefund.org is a private water conservation organization that offers incentives to homeowners to convert to drought tolerant landscaping and artificial turf.

Another idea is defensive gardening. Homeowners use plants and trees to create natural barriers to keep intruders away from their homes. Planting thorny bushes, prickly cacti and rose bushes around your house would discourage most criminals they prefer easy targets.
