A Peaceful Day in Syros

Aloha Everyone,

Sounds of horn from a ferry boat mixed with the ringing of church bells signaled to us that it’s near 8:00 am and time for our breakfast. Diogenes Hotel staffs cheerfully welcomed us back. The woman who serves breakfast even remembers both of our food selections from our prior stay.

Sunday at the main plaza is family time for Syrorians. Parents playing soccer with their young children, people practicing yoga, babies and toddlers squealing with delight surrounded by hungry pigeons. One can spend hours basking in the November sun, taking in this slower, peaceful, tranquil pace of life.

The slower pace of life extends to restaurant service. Our simple lunch of fried calamari and boiled beets, zucchini and spinach was very good and healthy, but it took 70 minutes to get served.
