The media announcement regarding closures of 154 Walmart locations in the US and 115 in Latin America came the same week when the US stock market took another nose dive.
J.J. and I utilize Walmart pharmacy to refill our prescriptions. We also shop for RV supplies for Honu. While closure of smaller non-performing Walmart stores might not impact us directly, we sympathize with people who live in small rural communities where a Walmart is the only national chain store in town.
Unfortunate and sad truth is that when a Walmart store opened, it probably forced one or more "Mom & Pop" stores to close. These small business owners are unlikely to be able to revive their old enterprises.
