The movie was showing on our hotel’s movie channel. J.J. and I are both familiar with the storyline which is based on the best-selling 1999 non-fiction book Seabiscuit: An American Legend written by Laura Hillenbrand.
The film version starring Toby Maguire received seven nominations at the 76th Academy Awards but failed to win even a single Oscar. It just happened to be bad timing as the film Seabiscuit release coincided with the release of mega hits of the Lord of the Rings series produced and directed by Peter Jackson.
Toby Maguire continues to work as an actor and film producer. He is credited for such mega Hollywood hits as Spider-Man Trilogy (2002-2007) and Spider-Man: No Way Home, 2021.
Watching the movie, Seabiscuit again was enjoyable. We appreciated the sensitivity and humanity displayed by Toby Maguire. It’s not surprising to see him casted as Spider-Man with a complex personality, smart, reliable, compassionate and emotionally stable with great sense of humor. J.J. kept my company as I was simultaneously trying to do our preliminary packing of our suitcases.
