Custer State Park

Aloha Everyone,

A break from the past several days of busy schedule. Sunny and warm weather, J.J. and I returned to Custer State Park to spend the morning. Located in the Black Hills, Custer State Park is the first and largest state park in SD encompassing over 71,000 acres, including rolling prairie grasslands and rugged mountains.

The last time we visited SD was 5 years ago. Our park pass has expired. Most of the facilities were operating Winter Schedule. We purchase a 7 days pass for Honu for $20.

Although the Needles drive was closed, we had some exciting wild animal sightings including mountain goats, Prong Horn, and at least 600 heads of American Bisons (1,400 estimated herd size in the park).

Today’s daytime high was 58 degrees. Tomorrow it is expected to snow in Rapid City starting at 9:00 am. We plan to leave by 8:00 am.

Aloha -- Cathi
