Las Vegas Classic volleyball Tournament

Aloha Everyone,

This morning, J.J. and I arrived at the Cashman Convention Center bright and early at 6:30 am. While we waited for the facility to open and the arrival of Jeff's team, J.J. and I ate our breakfast inside Honu.

Organized by the Southern California Volleyball Association, the cost to enter this year's tournament is $900 per team.

Cashman Convention Center, where Jeff's team played, there were about 50 volleyball courts. We understand that there is another site with nearly an equal number of courts simultaneously holding matches. If you calculate 100 courts, 10-12 players per team, 4 teams per court, and an AM and PM wave, we are talking over 8,000 girls. On top of that there are coaches, officials, parents and families who are here to support the athletes.

The place was filled with leggy, athletic girls all ready to give their best effort. This is crucial to many players, parents and coaches because scouts and coaches from colleges are here to sign up seniors.

Jeff's team played 3 matches and won all in two sets each. J.J. and I gave Jeff a ride back to his hotel so he could take a nap before their next matches starting at 6:00 pm.

Aloha -- Cathi
