Day Trip to Rhode Island Completing Honu's Visit to All 48 Contiguous States

Aloha Everyone,

The rain has finally abated and we are enjoying intermittent sunshine today.

Our target of visiting all forty-eight contiguous states in Honu was fulfilled today. We took the scenic route 1A from the seaside town of Mystic, Connecticut to Westerly, Rhode Island.

Mystic Seaport was beautiful. Just as I had imagined it. One day driving tour does not allow us to linger and visit The Museum of America and the Sea, the largest maritime museum in the United States. However, J.J.'s slow paced drive through the recreated 19th century seafaring village gave us sufficient time to appreciate this unique historic place.

When we saw a restaurant with "Mystic Pizza" signage, the two of us recalled the 1988 coming of age movie starring Julia Roberts.

Rhode Island is the smallest state in terms of size in the United States. It has an area of 1,214 square miles. From North to South, the distance is 48 miles and East to West, it is 37 miles.

East Haddam is located in the Connecticut River Valley. There are a number of iconic landmarks including the oldest swing bridge in America which we have to cross to get to and from our campground. Gillette Castle State Park, Nathan Hale School House are all located in this enchanting hamlet. We attempted to go to Gillette Castle State Park earlier this afternoon but the access was blocked by local yard sale activities.
