Sonoran Desert, Floras

Aloha Everyone,

The most popular symbol of Tucson is the Saguaro Cactus. No two Saguaros are alike. Each is unique. It’s easy to imagine one wearing a large sombrero with two arms hanging from a poncho. So when you see Saguaros covering vast open space, it is an impressive and beautiful sight.


The Sonoran Desert is located in Southwestern Arizona and Southeastern California encompassing approximately 100,000 square miles. The Sonoran Desert also covers two large areas in Mexico, including most of Baja California and the western half of the state of Sonora.


The Sonora Desert has the most variety of vegetation among the North American deserts. Here are some of floras that are found in the Sonora Desert:
