To Elko, Nevada Via I-80

Aloha Everyone,

I-80 is the route we took in 1998 after we picked up our elder son from Palo Alto, CA and proceeded to visit our younger son in Denver, CO.

At the rest stop in Fallon, J.J. switched driving with me. Straight road with light traffic, I stayed behind a FedEx truck hauling three 20 foot containers. Most of the time he maintained 65-75 mph on 75 mph zones so it was comfortable for me to use cruise control.

Passed by towns with curious names such as Winnemucca and Battle Mountain. Finding no interesting and clean restaurants for lunch, J.J. and I compromised for McDonald's. We paid a grand total of $8.01 for J.J.'s two breakfast sandwiches and my oatmeal and fresh milk!!! It was relatively healthy and definitely one of the cheapest meals we had recently.

We are staying at an RV park in Elko, NV. Basic amenities, but we were able to get a good site. Per the 2010 US Census, Elko has a population oh 18,297. It appears to be a rural, tranquil community.

For dinner, J.J. prepared Atlantic Salmon and we enjoyed it with baby spinach and mixed greens topped with tofu and pesto sauce. Greek yogurt with blueberries and a slice of marzipan completed our delicious meal.

Aloha -- Cathi
