Ferndale, Washington - Only 12 miles to the Canadian Border

Aloha Everyone,

Today we traveled less than 30 miles to arrive at our destination of Ferndale, Washington.

In the little port town of Fairhaven, J.J. and I saw docks where you can load your car on Alaska bound ferry.

On Rice,Thai Cuisine sounded inviting for a wet day. The restaurant had a seating capacity of at least 80 but only one other table with 3 persons were eating lunch.

Our waiter, originally from Bangkok, Thailand shared with us his personal observations:

1). There are a total of about 5,000 Thai food restaurants in the United States. About 1,000 of them are located in Washington state.  He has yet to figure out why.

2). In the U.S. public's image of Thai food is similar to Chinese food, meaning more people do take out. About 50% of On Rice business is take-out.

3). Thai restaurants unlike say French or Japanese restaurants are price sensitive. For main dishes, $12 is the ceiling people are willing to pay.

A very intelligent and perceptive gentleman. The owner is fortunate have him as an employee.

A quick stop to purchase food for dinner at Haggen.

The Cedars RV Resort in Ferndale is a Canadian corporate owned RV Resort. The facility is beautiful, but the WiFi personal hot spot (a $3 additional upgrade) was weak.

Perhaps all the trees in the area are impeding the WiFi and phone signals.
