California Droughts

Aloha Everyone,

According to news reports, the drought California is facing today is comparable to the one of 1976 to 1977. That was one of the most severe droughts on record for California. Governor Jerry Brown has declared a State of Emergency in January 2014. This means that there is a directive to state officials to take all necessary actions to prepare for shortages of water.

Just a few days ago, on July 29, 2014, there was an emergency regulation decree issued to all Californians to increase water conservation. All Californians are expected to stop watering outdoor landscapes that cause excess runoff; using a hose to wash a motor vehicle; washing down driveways and sidewalks; and no decorative water feature or fountain unless the water is recycled.

Driving on I-15 South, we were visibly reminded of the casualty of this drought. I pray that after a good wet winter season, this dry desolate landscape will be replaced by green grass and colorful wild flowers.

Aloha -- Cathi
