Lying Flat is non-violent social resistance movement that is threatening China’s goal of rejuvenating its economy and world political power.
Multiple stories about young Chinese in the work force are protesting issues such as long work days, skyrocketing housing prices, long commuting hours and no personal time. Their simple and powerful solution is to do nothing — simply lying flat.
Chinese business work guidelines is 9-9-6, which translates as work 9 am to 9 pm, 6 days a week. Many people live far from where they work. This means a necessity of making long daily commute usually via public transportation.
One Lying Flat advocate stated that Lying Flat is an action rather than a feeling and that is why so many young people in China are embracing the philosophy. Lying Flat is a lifestyle of prioritizing peace and tranquility of body and soul.
