Day trip to Keystone, South Dakota

Aloha Everyone,

Keystone is a quaint little town located just two miles from Mount Rushmore National Memorial. It was about a 30 minutes drive from Rapid City.

Along South Dakota Route 16, we saw billboards advertising many local attractions. I was curious about two private caves, but they were both closed for the season.

Main Street Keystone and its shopping mall appeared deserted.

When I asked the owner of BaRLee's where J.J. and I had lunch, he told us that most establishments including hotels and motels close by end of September. We were the only customers in the restaurant at 12:00 Noon. Our waitress was pleasant and told us that burgers are good.

They were good quality served with a large pile of homemade fries. I was only able to finish a portion of my food and the rest I shared with J.J.

Rapid City RV Park is perched on a hilltop overlooking Rapid City. You immediately notice that there is no real high rise buildings. Maybe the highest is about 7 stories. This makes the place open, friendly and approachable.
