Flaming Gorge National Recreation Area

Aloha Everyone,

From Rock Springs, WY at Exit 99 off I-80, we followed US Highway 191S through the high desert country. It was exciting to cross part of the overland Stage Trail, a major historic transportation corridor during pioneer times.

There were hardly any other cars on the road, J.J. and I enjoyed occasional sightings of herds of pronghorn, mule deer, hares as well as many species of raptors feasting on roadkill carcasses.

We were perplexed by the casual attitude of permitting vehicular traffic across the Flaming Gorge Dam & Reservoir. We have experienced more strict security measures at similar facilities around the country.

Vernal is located about 20 miles west of the of the Utah and Colorado border in northeastern Utah.

Not being able to locate a suitable restaurant, we had a picnic lunch in Honu in the parking area of the Utah Welcome Center in Jensen.

Reta, a gentle lady with a kind smile was helpful in giving me directions and happy to pose with our Flat Granddaughter.

From Rangely, we followed Colorado Route 139S then to I-70E. Tonight we are staying in Junction West RV Park in Grand Junction, CO. Their WiFi code has not changed since our last visit about 3 months ago. When we mentioned it to our son, Jeff, his reaction was, "Hmm... Not very good security."

Aloha -- Cathi
